1. Introduction

This Privacy Policy explains how "Lingo" (the "App") handles your information. Lingo is a local-first translation and AI speaking-practice tool. We respect your privacy. This policy honestly describes what we collect, what we don't collect, and how data flows.

2. Information We Collect

(a) Microphone recordings
The App accesses the microphone ONLY when you actively press the record button. Audio is used solely for local speech recognition (ASR). Audio files are deleted immediately after recognition and never uploaded to any server.

(b) API Key (Pro users only)
If you use cloud features, you may enter your own API Key (e.g. DeepSeek / OpenAI / Alibaba Cloud). The Key is stored on your device only and never uploaded to our servers.

(c) Interface preferences
Including interface language, theme mode, practice language, and cloud configuration. These are stored locally and never synced.

3. Information We Do NOT Collect

• No account, name, phone, or email (the App has no account system)
• No location data
• No device identifiers (IMEI / MAC / IDFA, etc.)
• No contacts, photos, or messages
• No conversation history on our servers
• No user behavior analytics, no third-party tracking SDKs
• We never sell, share, or trade your data

4. Data Flow

Free version:

• Speech recognition (ASR): fully on-device (sherpa-onnx + SenseVoice)
• Translation / Chat: fully on-device (requires local Ollama)
• Text-to-Speech: Microsoft Edge TTS (requires internet)
• Privacy: your text never leaves your device

Pro version (with your own API Key):

• Speech recognition: still on-device
• Translation / Chat / Tutoring: sent to the provider YOU choose (DeepSeek / OpenAI / Alibaba Cloud / custom)
• Text-to-Speech: Microsoft Edge TTS
• Privacy: text is sent to your chosen provider; we cannot access it

5. Data Storage and Deletion

The App stores the following on your device:

• Preferences: SharedPreferences
• API Key: SharedPreferences (plaintext; keep your device secure)
• TTS audio cache: temporary directory, max 500 files, auto-cleaned

You can delete all data by:

• Uninstalling the App
• Clearing App data in system settings

6. Third-Party Services

1. Microsoft Edge TTS
Purpose: text-to-speech
Requires: internet
Privacy: https://privacy.microsoft.com

2. Cloud LLM services (Pro only)
Provider: chosen by you (DeepSeek / OpenAI / Alibaba Cloud, etc.)
Requires: your API Key, billed to you
Note: your data is sent directly to your chosen provider. We do not proxy, forward, or store it.

3. Open-source components
sherpa-onnx (Apache-2.0), SenseVoice (FunASR License)

7. Permissions

• Microphone: for voice input
• Network: for Edge TTS and cloud LLM calls

You can revoke these permissions at any time in system settings.

8. Minors

The App is not intended for children under 13. If you are under 13, please use the App with a guardian and obtain consent before using cloud features.

9. Policy Updates

This policy may be updated. New versions will be shown in the App with a new effective date. Continued use of the App means you accept the updates.
